Weekend History Seminar 2020

Friday 21st February until Sunday lunch 23rd February 2020

Theme "Fun and Games"

The theme of the weekend will be ‘Fun & Games” which will enable some historical insight into what our ancestors considered to be entertainment. If you have never attended before this weekend is designed to encourage members, especially new ones, to informally meet and discuss their chosen aspect of history amongst like-minded, friendly people. This can be either over coffee or by submitting a paper. We know the idea of speaking in front of an audience is, for some, a rather daunting task, so this is the ideal venue for you to have a go and see how easy it is talking about your favourite subject to a friendly, interactive audience. In taking part you help us to promote the scholarly study of history.

This year, instead of our normal visit out to a local historical venue, we have invited two guest speakers from the History Department of The Open University. -Dr. John Slight Lecturer in Imperial War and Global History, who’s interests lie in the British Empire during the Middle East, Arabia and the Middle East during the first World War and the relationship between British imperialism and Islam. And, Dr. Anna Plassart, Lecturer in History who’s interests focus on European ideas in the 18th and 19th with particular interest in Scottish and French political philosophy.

If you wish to attend please complete and email this form to Sheila with a deposit of £30. Make cheques payable to: Open University History Society. Payment can be made by Direct Transfer bank details are: sort code 309837. Account no. 01412421.

The balance will be due by the 5th January 2020. Please do not make any payments direct to Hillscourt.
